Imagine the sensation of one or more of those impaling your knee joint.

Decent photography making building a skateboard wrong look like serious business.

Yeah, it's a neat design exercise, but I'd had to land on one of those trucks.

I've never understood the appeal of skateboarding. All my friends used to ride boards, while I was on my kicken' rad BMX bike. Skateboards were so slow and inefficient and would stop if there was a pebble on the ground.

Great idea until the first time a piece of exposed all-thread impales your keister.
Stanced board + Frontside + fakie kickflip = 50:50 chance of bleeding from your backside.

There's probably two parts to their popularity.
One, it's the closest you can get to surfing while staying on pavement.
Two, they're small and easier to carry around than say a bike. I noticed a few of my college classmates bring their boards into class. Also probably easier to just pick it up than struggle locking up a bicycle to a crowded rack.

This is the stupidest thing ever. not just because aesthetically it is not an improvement which I assume it the goal which is even more stupid enough on it's own. I just imagine my nut sack getting dragged across one of those bolts or the board snapping just as I was getting rad in front of some girls.

It allows you to "carve" like you can while snowboarding. Lends itself to more tricks than BMX, don't entirely need as much space as BMX, less bulk to transport. Really fun to sit around and learn new tricks with friends. I'm not bashing BMX, you just said it so that's what I'm comparing it to. Also, if you get larger softer wheels you can go over small pebbles

Didn't think of portability when using a board as a means of transportation. No wonder I see so many brosaminos skatin' around campus. Good call on that.

I doubt you could even ollie on those things. I'm actually surprised the bolts don't sheer off.

I wasn't bashing boarding. I tried to learn a few tricks and get the basics of boarding, but it was simply too slow for me.
Again, I don't have a problem with skateboarding, just never understood the appeal of it. Thanks for the insight though.

No worries, didn't think you were. It is really slow to learn. I stopped getting any better for a few years and then messed up my knee. Haven't been back on one since. Although I might get a nice cruising board and go pump around the bowls.

There's plenty of thread on those bolts for your nuts.
But yeah, this is why cars are better. And I can pick up some girls in a car.

LOL. We are in agreement.
